Poker Hands Order – Rankings Explained

A poker hand is made up of 5 playing cards. Every poker hand falls into one of many categories, including flush, straight or two pair. The player whose hand is in the top category wins the game.

Let’s learn each Traditional Poker Hand Rankings from highest to lowest.

Straight Flush – This is the highest kind of poker hand if there are no wild cards. Straight Flush is cards of the same color, shape or suit in sequence. Flanked by two straight flushes, the one with the better top card is highest. The greatest type of straight flush, A-K-Q-J-10 of a suit is known as the Royal Flush.

If two or more of the players have four of a kind of their cards of the same rank, the rank of the kicker will be the deciding point. Four of a kind are also well known ad quads.

Full House – Full House is made up of 3 of a kind and a pair of cards. The higher the 3 of cards is, the better it is. Full House is also popularly known as a boat.

Flush – Flush is made up of 5 cards with the same suit. When judging from two flushes, you need to check which card has the highest one. If all five cards are one and the same, the flushes are equivalent.

Straight – Straight cards consist of varied suits in order. When judging two sequences, the card with the higher top wins the game. The lowest straight is 5-4-3-2-A which is also identified as a wheel.

Three of a kind – The higher 3 of a kind triumphs this game. If two players have similar 3 of a kind, then the 2 unique cards are used to justify the win. 3 of a kind are also known as trips. If you have a pocket duo in Texas Hold’ em, and you have trips, this is known as a set.

Two Pairs – The cards with the higher top pair wins the game. If the highest pairs are equivalent, then the low pairs are used to justify the win. If both are also the same, then the unmatched card will break the tie.

Pair – The cards with the top pair wins. If the pairs are the same, then the unmatched cards are used to justify the win, initially by evaluating the highest unmatched cards, then the 2nd top unmatched cards, and lastly the lowest unmatched cards.

Nothing – If the cards do not fit any type of hand rankings, it is considered by high cards. Two cards are justified by taking the highest cards and matching them. If the cards are the same, then the second top cards are compared, and so on.
